Politics of using Facebook

April 14th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

Facebook is, without a question, already such a big thing to large population in the world. At times, it is the best convenient to quickly talk with ‘friends’ in my list. Or I can easily become a friend of someone I wouldn’t call ‘a friend’ if without help of FB. ‘Cause of the powerful enforcement with a face of empowering and encouraging, my friend list counts 482 as of  today. I’ve gotta put the specific date or sometimes time since the number fluctuates, not only due to having new friends but some people either ‘disown’ me ’cause they don’t know me well after all or going on and off of FB.

While the wall is open to all my contacts unless I make a complicated set-up, messages come in handy when it comes to shush- shush- wink- wink- matters. And I’ve just got a message from ‘a friend of my FB persona’, which I also know him in real life but haven’t had a chance to make efforts to transport the space in-between as ‘friendship’. I got to know him through this group of hang-out buddies in my dorm, ones who like some drinks, dance and cool parties, and I am aware that he spent quite of time with many of others than myself. Then, this message comes through, only sent to six people. I know four of them and three out of those four get together very often. One of them is from the same country (culture/language matter). I guess at this point what I’m trying to figure out, as well as why I’m writing this, is what kind of circle I’ve stepped into or am invited. An idea of a quick ‘sexy night’ at a cool local bar/book cafe is something I also would like to know and hang around but I really haven’t get to know him ’til now, no conversations but just “hi!”s and “See ya!”s.

More interesting part of this is some people I thought he was quite close to are not included. He maybe simply don’t have many ‘friends’ or recently switched his friendship path? I don’t know. Not my business. But definitely interesting to see who’s included and who’s not.
